⚡About Kurybees

Kurybees is an independent R&D studio, consisting of a laboratory, an IT department, and a consulting division, designing and modeling high-performance, sustainable battery solutions.

Our vision: Battery sustainability must be at the heart of the electric transition.
Our mission: We reconcile performance and durability, helping our clients design innovative and reliable battery systems four times faster using our testing and digital tools.
Our promise: Kurybees is your co-pilot—the expert guiding you to make the best decisions according to your objectives.

Kurybees: Powering durability with batteries.

🎯Internship Context

Kurybees has developed an advanced electro-thermal-aging model in MATLAB/Simulink, calibrated on more than 20 industrial cell references (LFP, NMC, 4680, 21700, etc.) tested in its laboratory.

This model is currently used internally and is part of a valorization program aimed at turning it into a robust, interoperable, and commercially licensable product.

The intern will contribute to this work within the R&D team, participating in the improvement of the aging model, code structuring, and preparation for commercial deployment.

🧩Main Responsibilities

1️⃣ Contribution to the improvement of the aging model

  • Participate in the implementation of a multi-dimensional aging model to track the evolution of electrical parameters (R0, R1, R2, Rate1, Rate2, charge transfer resistance) beyond simple capacity.
  • Collaborate on the calibration and validation of the model using experimental data from the laboratory.
  • Contribute to the simulation of various use cases (vehicle, stationary storage, intensive cycling) to demonstrate the model’s capabilities.
  • Compare the current model with the enhanced model in terms of accuracy, stability, and physical relevance.

2️⃣ Model Structuring and Documentation

  • Participate in reorganizing Simulink sub-blocks and clarifying the model architecture.
  • Contribute to formatting, documentation, and integration of the Kurybees visual guidelines into Simulink masks.
  • Verify the physical consistency of the blocks and their alignment with experimental test data.

3️⃣ Technical Optimization and Validation
• Assist in standardizing inputs/outputs and verifying the numerical robustness of the model.
• Contribute to performance analysis (computation time, convergence, transient behavior).
• Participate in studying possible optimizations (time steps, solver selection, vectorization).

4️⃣ Contribution to Licensing and Interoperability
• Learn about model protection methods (Simulink Model Protection, Simulink Compiler).
• Participate in generating an FMU version and verifying it across different environments.
• Contribute to the preparation of a “black box” version in collaboration with the IT team.

5️⃣ Valorization and Preparation for Commercialization
• Participate in the creation of technical presentation materials and product datasheets for the model.
• Contribute to writing the user manual and simplifying the simulation process.
• Assist in defining license packages (academic, industrial, annual update).

📦Expected Deliverables (with team support)

• An improved model, tested on multiple use cases.
• Clear and structured technical documentation.
• Comparisons illustrating the benefits of the enhanced model.
• Contribution to the “black box” version and the FMU.
• Valorization materials (product datasheet, technical report, user manual).

🧠Desired Profile

Education: Engineer or Master’s degree in Modeling, Electrical Engineering, Energy, or Embedded Systems (equivalent to Bac+5).

Technical Skills:

  • Proficiency in MATLAB / Simulink (mandatory)
  • Knowledge of electro-thermal modeling principles and battery aging
  • Interest in licensing / industrialization of digital models

Personal Qualities:

  • Rigor and scientific curiosity
  • Team spirit
  • Sense of technical valorization

🧭What You Will Learn

• How an R&D model becomes a commercially deployable and licensable product.
• How to structure a multi-physics, multi-use model in MATLAB/Simulink.
• How to interface a model with other environments via FMU.
• How to valorize a digital model in an industrial context.
